Tribute concert - Bonggu Ánte / Anders P. Bongo

This year, we honour of Anders P. Bongo / Bonggu Ánte with a tribute concert. He was a central figure in Sámi culture and was one of those who helped clear the path so that joik could be recognised in the wider society. He was a joiker, reindeer herder and a duojár, someone whose knowledge were deeply rooted in Sámi tradition.

Bonggu Ánte has been a familiar presence at Sámi festivals, supporting and encouraging joik wherever he went. He travelled to festivals across Sápmi to sell «duodji» together with his wife, Marit Gunhild, becoming well-known and warmly appreciated wherever they went. 

In 2004 he received the Áillohaš Music Award, the same year he created the joik «Sámi Beassášmárkanat», which has become part of the festival’s identity and still resonates with new generations.

As a thanks for everything he was to Sámi culture, the joik tradition and especially to Sami Easter Festival, we honour him with a dedicated concert in Báktehárji. The evening will feature traditional joiks and musical arrangements of his works, performed by artists inspired by his voice and legacy.
